AMBOY — Brooklyn Whelchel has been named the Amboy High School Student of the Month for January. She is the daughter of Chad and Laurie Whelchel.

GPA:   3.5 /4.0

Memberships and Involvement: While in high school I have participated in Volleyball, track, cross country, dance, and chorus. I was also Homecoming Attendant my Sophomore year. I am a member of Spanish Honor Society, Student Council, and Leo’s Club. I am also a member of the Maytown Comets 4-H Club and I volunteer at Teen Turf three times a week tutoring Central and Junior High students. I am also an altar server at St. Patrick’s Church in Amboy.

Awards and Honors: Last year I was awarded Academic All-Conference for the 2019-20 season. I have been involved in track for the past 3 years and medaled at state both my freshman and sophomore years. Due to the COVID pandemic my season last year was cut very short. I have also been on the honor roll every year.

Best Memories of AHS: Some of my best memories are all the musicals I have been involved in, including Annie my freshman year, Shrek my Sophomore year, and Phantom of the Country Opera my junior year. Some of my other favorite memories were not only the dances such as Homecoming or MORP but the week leading up to those dances including dress-up days, building floats, decorating hallways, designing shirts, playing Powder Puff, and coaching the boys in Powder Buff.

Future Plans:  I plan to attend Sauk Valley Community College and get some of my gen-eds out of the way. Then I plan on transferring to the University of Illinois to pursue my degree in biochemistry. After I get my degree, I plan on attending medical school and focusing on a career in radiology to eventually become a Radiologist.
