Six whooping cranes appear in Craig Walter’s wetland near Amboy this past week. A neighbor was able to photograph the whooping cranes from their neighboring property. The cranes all had leg bands. These six whooping cranes were tracked to be part of Operation Migration, which started in Wisconsin several years ago. Operation Migration has played a lead role in the reintroduction of endangered whooping cranes into eastern North America . In the 1940s the species was reduced to just 15 birds. Also keeping the whooping cranes company were sandhill cranes. (Photo submitted)
