ROCK ISLAND — Sister Rosemary Becker, O.S.B., 89, of St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in the Chapel of St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m., on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Monastery, where a Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting with the arrangements.
Rosemary Becker was born on Nov. 6, 1929 in Maytown, a daughter of Jacob and Helen (Henkel) Becker. She attended Dorsey Public Grade School in Maytown, Amboy High School, Amboy, and St. Ambrose College, Davenport, Iowa.
Sister Rosemary Becker entered the Benedictine community on Oct. 3, 1948 and made her final profession as a Benedictine sister on July 11, 1952. Sister Rosemary’s ministry of teaching were at St. Joseph, Ivesdale, St. Mary’s, Moline, St. Thomas More, Munster, Ind., St. Peter and Paul, Nauvoo, Holy Family, Peoria, Holy Trinity, Bloomington, Community Service at St. Mary’s, Nauvoo, and Rock Island, Rainbow Coordinator, Bloomington, and tutoring at Jordan Catholic School, Rock Island.
Sister Rosemary is survived by her Benedictine Sisters; sister, Anita Dunn; and many nieces and nephews.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Raymond, Eugene and Urban.
