MENDOTA — Reverend Edward R. Hughes, 83, formerly of West Brooklyn and Sublette died Saturday June 3, 2017 at Heritage Manor, Mendota. Father was born on Jan. 19, 1934, in Chicago, to Edward J. and Irene (Rowland) Hughes.

MENDOTA — Reverend Edward R. Hughes, 83, formerly of West Brooklyn and Sublette died Saturday June 3, 2017 at Heritage Manor, Mendota. Father was born on Jan. 19, 1934, in Chicago, to Edward J. and Irene (Rowland) Hughes.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sublette, with the Most Reverend Bishop David Malloy officiating. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the church with rosary at 7 p.m. and visitation from 10 - 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the Mass. Interment will be at St Mary Cemetery in Sublette.  Arrangements are being made by Mihm-Jones Funeral Home, 303 E. Main Street, Amboy.

Father was ordained to the priesthood on May 31, 1958 by Most Reverend Loras Lane. He attended Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary, Chicago before entering St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland. Father's first assignment was as Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Parish, Harvard. His other assignments were Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Parish, Freeport; Parochial Vicar at Holy Angels Parish, Aurora; Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Crystal Lake; Parochial Vicar, St. Anne Parish, Dixon; Pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, Fulton and St. Patrick Parish, Albany; Pastor of St. Rita Parish, Rockford; Pastor of St. Mary Parish, West Brooklyn and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Sublette.  Father retired from active ministry July 1, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Father is survived by his brother priests and special friends of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish and St. Mary Parish.
