DIXON — Paul D. Mekeel, 57, of Dixon, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at KSB Hospital in Dixon following a long illness. 

He was born June 27, 1961, in Sterling, the son of Arthur and Margaret (Merlo) Mekeel.

Paul was a Graduate of Dixon High School in 1980. He worked as an aide at Village Inn as well as Lee County Nursing Home. Paul then worked as a Security Guard at Byron Nuclear Plant until 1997. After moving to Elizabethtown, Penn., he served as Office Coordinator for Nurses Direct from 1998-2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his children Matthew P. (Bridgette Kelley) Mekeel, Melissa L. (Casey) Ellis, and Michelle A. (Javier) Soqui, all of Huntsville, Texas; five grandchildren, Elise Mekeel, Dallas and Brooklynn Ellis, and Isaac and Isaiah Soqui; his siblings Kathy (Steve) Gardner, of Amboy, Don (Diane) Mekeel, of Sterling, Frank (Kathy) Mekeel, of Amboy, Mary (Roland) Derksen, of Zeeland, Mich., John Mekeel, of Dixon, Theresa Mekeel, of Dixon, his twin brother, Patrick (Brigette) Mekeel,of Sterling, Michael Mekeel, of Galt, and Thomas Mekeel, of Dixon; nieces and nephews; and two aunts, Lena Merlo, of Dixon and Ann (Ed) Rios, of Peoria.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon with the Rev. Thomas Doyle, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday in the church.
