AMBOY — Ned R. Ely, 83, of Amboy, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling. 

He was born Oct. 17, 1939 in Henry, the son of Olen and Hilda (Neuhalfan) Ely. Ned was a machinist at Henry Pratt Co. in Dixon for 43 years prior to his retirement in 2005. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, Amboy Lions Club, and the Mendota and Dixon Elks Clubs.

Ned married Carol O'Sadnick Oct. 5, 1963 at St. Mary Catholic Church in West Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gordon and Richard Ely, and sisters, Marjorie (Melvin) Leffelman and Mary Helen (Hubert) Leffelman.

Ned is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Lori (Doug) Schrock, of Amboy, Douglas (Deanne) Ely, of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Brian Ely, of Amboy, Renee (Curt) O'Rourke, of Amboy, Gary (Tina) Ely, of Washington, IL; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister in law, Karen Ely, of Amboy; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 12, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy with Rev. John Gow officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Maytown. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.  A memorial has been established.
