DIXON — Michael Robert Propheter, 74, of Dixon, passed away at his home on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017.

There will be a visitation at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, from 2 - 5 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, followed by a 5 p.m., memorial service, with Deacon Terry Wagner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dixon, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Michael was born on March 2, 1943, in Sterling, the son of the late Robert A. Propheter and his wife, the late Florence L. (O’Malley) Propheter. Michael attended Newman Central Catholic High School, and Northwestern University, earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. He enjoyed cheering for the Northwestern Wildcats, both from home and from Ryan Field in Evanston, and he was very fond of reading, and could always be found with a newspaper or a book in his hands.

Survivors include four sons, Kevin (Amy) Propheter, of Warrenton, Va., David Propheter, of Orlando, Fla., Douglas (Helen) Propheter, of Frederick, M.D., and Jason Propheter, of Rockford; four daughters, Katherine (Ken) McCaleb, of Ashburn, Va., Betsy (Douglas) York, of Hunt Valley, M.D., Kelsey Propheter, of DeWitt, Iowa, and Mackenzie Propheter, of Bloomington; four brothers, Patrick (Ginny) Propheter, of Dixon, Timothy (Ann) Propheter of Rock Falls, Marc (Christine) Propheter of Geneva, and Christopher (Anita) Propheter, of Naperville; two sisters, Nancy (Barry) Passini, of Wausau, Wis.,  and Anne (Jeff) Dollarhide, of Scottsdale Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 15 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Propheter and two nieces, Maighdlin (Maddie) Bentley and Megan Propheter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
