AMBOY — Mary E. Dickinson, 94, of Amboy, died Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Heritage Health in Mendota. 

She was born July 14, 1926 in Sublette the daughter of Leon and Mary (Clark) Lauer. Mary worked as a secretary at Ortgiesen Insurance, Leffelman and Associates Insurance, and also worked at Yogi Bear Campground. She was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Amboy Civic Organization, and she was also the Queen Mum of the Amboy Red Hats. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.

Mary married Charles F. Dickinson on Oct. 29, 1949 at St. Patrick Church in Amboy. She is preceded in death by her husband, who passed on July 4, 2004, one son, William Dickinson, and two sisters, Ellen Lauer and Patricia Weir.

She was also preceded in death by cousins, Phillip Hammond and Rosemary Hammond Elliott who were like another brother and sister to the Lauer family. During the Great Depression when Mary's father Leo lost his job, the family moved from Sublette to Amboy and moved in with Aunt Kay Hammond and her brother Uncle Billy Hammond and Aunt Kay's two children Phillip and Rosemary. The families remain close to this day.

Mary is survived by her children, Tom (Deb) Dickinson, of Amboy, Barb (Greg) Dickinson-Schroeder, of San Jose,  Calif., John (Kathleen) Dickinson, of Amboy; 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Reed of Topeka, Kansas.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday June 2, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church following the visitation. A memorial has been established.
