AMBOY — Amboy Lion Vice-President Roger Wittenauer and Lion Scholarship Chairman Jim Travi recently presented five $600 scholarships to graduating seniors at the AHS Honors Night on May 18. This is the 15th consecutive year that the Amboy Lions Club has made scholarships available to Amboy High School graduates. The quality of the applicants applying for the scholarship this year was outstanding and the decision was a very difficult one for the committee. The applicants’ career goals included plant science and molecular biology, elementary education, medicine, agribusiness, pathology, cosmetology, physical therapy, speech pathology, pediatrics, business, athletic training, criminal justice and psychology. The criteria used by the selection committee includes: citizenship, academic achievement, community and extra-curricular involvement, and a desire to pursue higher education goals. Each recipient will receive a $600 scholarship at the completion of their first semester of college. The recipients and their parents will be honored at a Lions club dinner meeting in early August.
