DIXON — Lester C. Underhile, 69, of Dixon, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon.

He was born Oct. 7, 1948, in Amboy, to Elmer and Ruth (Reid) Underhile. He was a graduate of Amboy High School and later attended Sauk Valley Community College. Lester served in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He served in the infantry and transportation divisions. He married Laura Sleevar on Jan. 9, 1971 in Bloomington. Lester worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years before retiring 2004. He was once voted Dixon’s favorite letter carrier in a Dixon Evening Telegraph poll. Lester was an active member of Abiding Word Church where he faithfully served as an usher.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clinton (Nicole) Underhile, of Channahon and Nathan (Laura) Underhile, of Lisle; and one daughter, Jessica (Nathan) Boyles, of Dixon.

He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Raimend Underhile, Alexandra Underhile, Bailey Underhile, Brett Underhile, Jorja Boyles, Charlie Boyles and Logan Underhile. He is also survived by his sisters, Beverly Beams, of Tiskilwa, Joyce U. Gibson, of Dixon, Sharon U. Thompson, of Dixon and Jane Miles, of Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Calvin Thomas Underhile.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, in the Abiding Word Church in Sterling with Pastor Scott Porter, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon with Military Graveside Rites by the Combined Veterans Group. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until time of service in the church. A memorial has been established. Funeral arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
