LA MOILLE - LeRoy H. Klein, 94, of rural LaMoille, died peacefully at his home on Dec. 13, 2018.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Maytown, 1336 Maytown Road, Amboy, with Rev. Richard Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Maytown with military honors by the Amboy American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16 and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 at St. Patrick’s Church, Maytown. The rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. during the visitation on Sunday. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.

LeRoy was born Feb. 10, 1924 in Mendota to William and Anna (Schneider) Klein, one of 12 children. He married the love of his life, LaVerne Stenzel on Feb. 3, 1951. They celebrated 67 joyful years of marriage and raised 10 children.

Survivors include 10 children, Steven (Catherine) Klein of Sublette, Linda (Robert) Cheeseman of Ashton, Gerald (Linda) Klein, Edward (Chris) Klein, Richard (Teri) Klein, Douglas (Colleen) Klein of Sublette, Carol (Michael) Elam of Bloomington, Judith (Robert) Harvatin of Allen, Texas, Ronald (Angie) Klein of Oregon, and Pamela (Chris) Fieweger of Warrenville; 32 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Harold (Shirley) Klein of Spring Valley and Mary McCauley, Dorothy Wieman and Bertha Sondgeroth, all of Mendota.

He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Hilda, Raymond, Margaret (Biers), Gilbert, Edwin, Joseph and Hilary.

LeRoy attended St. Peter and Paul’s School in Peterstown. He was a lifelong farmer and the May Township Road Commissioner for 26 years. He was a long-time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Maytown and a 75-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He served his country in the U.S. Army (Pacific Theatre) during World War II. He was a 4-H leader, a poultry superintendent at the Lee County Fair, and served on the Lee County Fair board. He was also on the board of directors of the Lee County Farm Bureau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Maytown or the Lee County Fair Association.
