Lee Center Woodside Cemetery hosts Memorial Day weekend service

LEE CENTER — The Lee Center Woodside Cemetery board and the Lee Center Congregational Church will be co-hosting their annual Memorial Day Weekend Service on Sunday, May 28, at 10:30 a.m., at Woodside Cemetery.

This year’s guest speaker will be Mrs. Betty McMahon who will speak about the first flag raising on Mt. Suribachi during the battle at Iwo Jima. The first flag raising photo was taken on February 23, 1945 and features her dad Marine PFC James Michels in the front holding a rifle, guarding the perimeter.

During the service, Pastor Jack Briggs will also have a short reflection. They will be recognizing the 167 veterans in the cemetery through a roll call. Patriotic songs will also be sung. Anyone who is planning to attend this service should bring along their own lawn chairs. In case of rains, the ceremony will be held at the Lee Center Congregational Church in Lee Center.
