STOCKTON — Laurel K. Newman, 67 of Stockton, formerly of Amboy, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019, after a short battle with cancer. 

She was born Oct. 15, 1951, in Amboy to Ted and Fay (Hobbs) Hunter. She married David A. Newman on Aug.15, 1971, in Amboy.

Laurel worked as a hairdresser for many years. She also worked at Pankhurst Memorial Library, Amboy Junior High and Amboy High School. She spent many years painting ornaments for family and friends. Laurel enjoyed taking trips to Kansas and spending time at Timberlake Campground in Mt. Carroll. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their sports activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Chad; half-sister, Marjorie Kirk and half-brother, Richard Reynolds.

Survivors include her husband, Dave, of 47 years; son Ben (Jody) Newman, of Stockton; daughter, Tedra Clements, of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren, Kassidy and Zachary Newman and Eliot and Amelia Clements; one step-granddaughter, Brianna Fischer; and two step-great-granddaughters, Daphne and Ariella.

A celebration of her life will be held from 1 – 4 p.m., on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Sheridan's Walton Tap, 906 Walton Road, Dixon, IL, 61021.
