Landon Whelchel named AHS Student of the Month

AMBOY — Landon Whelchel, son of Laurie Whelchel and Chad Whelchel, was named the Amboy High School Student of the Month for September.
GPA: 3.9
Memberships and Involvement: President of Senior Class, National Honor Society, FFA, Basketball, baseball, and football, member of the Maytown Comets 4-H club for over five years, have been an altar server for over nine years, tutoring fellow students, in the fall I help with the junior high football games by running the down and distance markers, in the winter I help referee the third and fourth grade basketball games and in the spring and summer I help umpire the little league baseball games.
Awards and Honors: Sophomore year I won first place in the Section 2 Agronomy contest, Academic All-conference, High Honor roll all four years, Second team offensive and defensive player for football, all area honorable mention for baseball, Captain of the football and baseball teams.
Best Memories of AHS: Making it to state in football for the first time in almost 40 years.
Future Plans: I plan to attend four year university to study mechanical engineering.
