ROCK ISLAND – The Amboy-LaMoille girls’ track team will compete in three events at the state track meet after participating in the Rock Island Alleman Class 1A Sectional on May 10 at Augustana College.

Heading the list of qualifiers is the 4x400-meter relay team, which outperformed the rest of the field in racing to a first-place finish. The group of Ashley Althaus, Cassidy Corcoran, Sidney Corcoran and Brooklyn Whelchel recorded a winning time of 4:10.54. Amboy’s relay team is seeded fifth in the state heading into this weekend’s state meet.

Althaus will be heading to state in an individual event as well after she ran qualifying time in the 400-meter dash. Althaus was clocked in 1:01.3, which put her in fourth place, but she finished under the state qualifying standard of 1:02.19.

The Lady Clippers will also be sending their 4x200-meter relay team to state. Despite finishing in fifth place, the squad of Althaus, Cassidy Corcoran, Sidney Corcoran and Whelchel was clocked in 1:49.35, which was more than two seconds faster than the state qualifying time of 1:51.42.

Amboy-LaMoille earned team points in three other events. Margaret Vaessen just missed landing a trip to state after placing third in the 800-meter run. Her time of 2:28.31 came up just short of the second-place time of 2:28.06.

Kelynn Boyle took fifth place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:52.51, while Emma Lundquist was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles at 52.03.

The state qualifying events and the other three events that earned points for the Lady Clippers were season best times.
