Lady Clippers lose three matches against tough opponents

AMBOY — The Amboy Lady Clippers lost three matches against two tough opponents in varsity volleyball action last week.

Amboy hosted Sterling Newman on April 5 and the Lady Comets came away with a hard-fought 20-25, 26-24, 25-16 win.

Leaders in kills for AHS were Mallory Powers with six and Madelyn McLaughlin with three. Gabby Jones topped the team with nine assists and McLaughlin added six, while Powers had six digs, Brianna Blaine had five ace serves, and Blaine and Gabby Jones collected three blocks apiece. Eden Lindenmeyer helped out with four digs.

Amboy traveled to Eastland on April 6 and the home team prevailed 25-13, 25-16.

Powers (5) and McLaughlin (4) again led the team in kills, as did Gabby Jones (6) and McLaughlin (4) in assists. Lindenmeyer came away with seven digs followed by Powers and Gabby Jones with five apiece, while Olivia Dinges posted three blocks.

Eastland visited the AHS gym on April 8 and the result was the same – a 25-17, 25-12 Cougar victory.

Powers and Blaine recorded five and three kills, respectively, for the Lady Clippers. Gabby Jones (7) and McLaughlin (4) led in assists, Lindenmeyer (9) and Powers (5) led in digs and Dinges came up with three blocks.

Amboy has a 5-4 overall record and a 4-2 conference mark.
