AMBOY — The Amboy Lady Clippers began the 2018 softball season with a 6-5 setback to Forreston on March 15 at the AHS field.
Forreston did all of its damage in two innings – scoring three runs each in the fourth and fifth frames. The Lady Cardinals clubbed a pair of home runs. Amboy, which had grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third, added two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
The Lady Clippers got a single and a double from Bailee Highbarger, Allison O’Rourke and Dani Hochstatter.
Highbarger was the losing pitcher.

The Lady Clippers gave up a lead in the late innings and dropped a 6-4 decision to Mendota on March 16 at the MHS field.
Amboy jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Mendota posted two runs in the second and the Lady Clippers added a single tally in the fourth. Amboy maintained its 4-2 lead until the bottom of the sixth when Mendota struck for four runs to claim the victory.
The Lady Clippers (0-2, 0-1) collected six hits, led by Hochstatter with a pair of singles.
Highbarger was tagged with the pitching loss.
