BYRON – The Amboy-LaMoille girls’ track team went up against some stiff competition at the Byron Indoor Classic on March 16.

The Lady Clippers finished seventh in the team standings with 38 points. Bureau Valley took first with 98 points, followed by Prairie Ridge (87), Aurora Central Catholic (66), Byron (57), Winnebago (53) and Hampshire (47). Placing behind A-L were Rockford East (9), North Boone (4), Harvard (3), Stillman Valley (0) and Rockford Christian Life (0).

The Lady Clippers took first place in two events. Margaret Vaessen topped the rest of the field in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.64, while the 4x400-meter relay team broke the tape in 4:26.16. Runners were Sidney Corcoran, Emma Lundquist, Lauren Althaus and Ashley Althaus.

“The girls that participated did great,” said A-L coach Bob Halberg. “The 4x200 improved their season best by two seconds and the 4x400 that won ran just about the same as their season best. Margaret Vaessen ran her best of the year by three seconds and won her race going away.”
