Lady Clippers edge out Polo on April 26

AMBOY — The Amboy Lady Clippers’ varsity softball team edged out Polo, 6-4, on April 26 at the AHS field.

The visitors took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth when Amboy erupted for five runs to pull out the win.

Hannah Blanton blasted a home run for the Lady Clippers, while Kaysi Schafer had a single and two runs batted in.

Baylie Nickel was the starting pitcher for Amboy and went three innings. Blanton came on in relief and was credited with the win.


Polo returned the favor and nipped Amboy, 6-5, on April 28 at Polo.

Amboy led 5-4 entering the bottom of the seventh when the home team pushed across two runs to post the comeback victory.

Dana Merriman slugged a two-run homer for the Lady Clippers, while Baylie Nickel collected a pair of singles.

Blanton was the losing pitcher.


Amboy scored in every inning and rolled over Ashton-Franklin Center, 16-1, on April 29 at Ashton. Amboy’s big inning was an eight-run third.

Blanton clouted two home runs and a double and Tyrah Vaessen homered, doubled and singled to lead the charge.

Baylie Nickel was in the circle and picked up the win, allowing three hits and striking out three for the Lady Clippers (4-9, 3-4).
