MENDOTA – After four games in three days, the Amboy Lady Clippers had one practice and then made the short trip to Mendota on Nov. 20. Amboy didn’t show any effects from the busy schedule as it handed Mendota a 51-37 loss. The win kept AHS perfect on the season at 5-0.
The Lady Clippers owned an 11-7 lead after the opening stanza and then they exploded for 23 second-quarter points compared to just eight for Mendota to take a commanding 34-15 halftime lead. Amboy sophomore Mallory Powers keyed the second-quarter uprising as she poured in three three-pointers and a pair of free throws.
Powers finished with 15 points to pace the Lady Clippers, while she also had seven rebounds and three assists. Abi Payne dropped in 10 points and led the squad with six assists and six steals. Powers and Payne led the defense from their guard positions.
Breanna Fisher played a super game with 10 points on five of six shooting. She added five rebounds. Noelle Jones was next with seven points, seven rebounds and five assists, Kyleigh Donna topped the rebounding chart with eight despite being limited because of foul trouble. Rachel Lachat chipped in with four points, two assists and two steals.
