AMBOY — All four of A-L’s relay teams had their best times of the season. Two of them finished in second place, the highest finishes for the Lady Clippers in the meet.

Lady Clippers compete in Fulton

The Amboy-LaMoille girls’ track team ran up against some tough competition in the Lady Steamer Invitational on April 17 at Fulton.

The Lady Clippers scored 45 points and finished in sixth place in the team standings. Rock Island Alleman claimed the team title with 104 points. Milledgeville was second with 89 points, followed by Fulton (82), Riverdale (72) and Erie (55). Clinton (34), Newman (29), West Carroll (11) and Morrison (6) completed the standings.

Amboy-LaMoille won first-place honors in one event. The 4x400 relay team had a winning time of 4:20.85. Making up the group were Cassidy Corcoran, Sidney Corcoran, Brooke Whelchel and Ashley Althaus.

The Landers-Loomis Girls’ Invitational proved to be another challenge for the Lady Clippers on April 20 at Oregon.

A-L scored 38 points to finish sixth in the seven-team meet. Rochelle piled up 121 points to claim the team title, followed by Winnebago (107), Rock Island Alleman (67), Byron (50) and Fulton (40). Hall (33) also competed.

The 4x400 group of Cassidy Corcoran, Sidney Corcoran, Whelchel and Althaus had a time of 4:20.28, while the 4x800 team of Kaitlin Ortgiesen, Kelynn Boyle, Macy Mershon and Margaret Vaessen was clocked in 11:11.76.

The Lady Clippers went up against four other teams in a meet at Bureau Valley in Manlius on April 23.

The host Storm dominated the action with 155 points to finish atop the team standings. St. Bede checked in next with 52 points, followed by Riverdale (49), Deer Creek-Mackinaw (43) and A-L (41).

The Lady Clippers’ best finish was by the 4x400 relay team, which broke the tape in first place with a time of 4:20.61. The Corcorans, Whelchel and Althaus made up the winning team.
