AMBOY — The Amboy Lady Clippers had another busy week and came away with three more wins to climb to an 8-0 record.
Amboy hosted Stockton on Dec. 2, which was ranked 10th in Class 1A by MaxPreps. Amboy jumped out to a 17-9 first-quarter lead and increased it each quarter on the way to a 54-34 victory.
Abi Payne led the attack with 21 points, four assists and three steals. Kyleigh Donna scored 14 points by converting seven of her eight shots. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Mallory Powers dropped in eight points and led with six assists and four steals. Gabby Jones was next with six points and five boards, while Olivia Dinges added five points, five rebounds and four assists.

The second game of the week was at Ashton-Franklin Center on Dec. 4 and the Lady Clippers coasted to a 52-32 triumph. Amboy went on an 18-6 second-quarter burst to open up a 36-17 halftime lead.
Donna had another good shooting night with 22 points. She added seven rebounds. Powers pumped in 10 points, while Ashley Althaus and Dinges each chipped in with six markers. Also, Althaus had four rebounds and four assists, Payne contributed four points, five assists and three steals, and Jones added four points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Amboy High School hosted the Amboy Shootout on Dec. 7, with the Lady Clippers going up against former Three Rivers Conference foe Riverdale. It put the state’s third-ranked Lady Clippers in Class 1A against the Lady Rams, who are ranked fifth in Class 2A. The contest went down to the wire with Amboy prevailing, 42-39.
Amboy led by seven points early, but Riverdale came back to take a six-point lead in the fourth quarter. It was a great defensive battle with lots of forced turnovers by each team. Althaus and Dinges made big baskets in the final quarter. Powers tied the game with a long-ranger three-pointer. Riverdale had the ball with 19 seconds left and Amboy knew it needed a stop. Powers got a steal off of a deflected pass and got the ball to Payne, who launched a three-pointer that found nothing but net to secure the win.
Powers scored eight of her 15 points in the crucial fourth quarter. She also came away with three steals. Payne added 14 points, three assists and four steals. Dinges ended with seven points and four caroms, Donna had two points and five boards, while Jones and Althaus each had two points and four rebounds.
