Lady Clipper netters start season 1-2

AMBOY — The Amboy volleyball team began its season with a tough home loss, bounced back in an exciting three-set victory, and lost on the road to begin the first week on the season 1-2.

On Monday, Aug. 21, the Clippers hosted Earlville.

The varsity team fell 25-13, 25-16, while the junior varsity team won 25-19, 25-19.

The second match of the season on Wed. Aug. 23 was also at home as the Lady Clippers defeated Serena 15-25, 28-26, 25-16.

Senior Meave Larson served five aces and tallied five kills, senior Elly Jones recorded six kills, six digs, and three aces, and junior Tyrah Vaessen had 20 assists, an ace, and a kill.  

The junior varsity team lost 25-23, 26-24.

In Mendota on Thursday, Aug. 24, the Lady Clippers fell 25-12, 25-2, while the junior varsity squad won in three sets 25-15, 24-26, 15-11.

During the Amboy Depot Days on Saturday, the volleyball team participated in the Amboy Sylvan Shuffle hosted by the Amboy Education Foundation. 

Coach Nicole Jones said, “The event was a great way for the players to give back to their community and the education foundation.”
