WEST BROOKLYN – Kala A. Thompson, 75, of West Brooklyn passed away at her residence on April 18, 2017.

Visitation was held from 1-3 p.m. on April 21 at the Schwarz Funeral Home. Private family services followed.

Kala was born Oct. 8, 1941 in Dixon to Carl and Helen (Clayton) Fassig.

Survivors include three daughters, Michelle Meyer of West Brooklyn, Rev. Heidi (Paul) Heimgartner of Blooming Prairie, Minn. and Heather (Randy Sthokal) Skumatz of Evansville, Wis.; four grandchildren, Luke and Jonathan Heimgartner and Alden and Preston Sthokal; and many beloved cousins.

Kala graduated from Mendota High School in 1959 and was a graduate of Decatur School of Nursing. She began her career as a surgical tech in Decatur, was involved in the manufacturing and hospitality fields in the Mendota area and was a lifelong farmer in West Brooklyn. She was a devoted caregiver to her parents and others and was a thoughtful grandmother, supportive mom, fun-loving traveling companion and an avid Blackhawks fan. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Mendota Moose Lodge.
