Jones earns medals at state track and field meet

CHARLESTON – Amboy-LaMoille girls’ track team member Elly Jones earned three medals out of the four events she competed in at the IHSA State Track & Field meet on June 10 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Jones, a freshman, finished sixth in one event, eighth in two events and 12th in another. The sixth-place finish came in the 100-meter hurdles, where she ran a time of 15.76. The first-place finisher in the 100 hurdles was Gracie Jessup of Catlin Salt Fork, who completed the race in 14.81.

Jones took eighth place in the 300-meter hurdles and in the triple jump. In the 300 hurdles, she was clocked in 49.10, while the winning time of 44.41 was posted by Grace Nelson of Altamont.

In the triple jump, Jones’s best effort was measured at 10.32 meters (33’-8”). Jade Aber of Bureau Valley came away with the state title in the triple jump with a distance of 11.13 meters (36’-5”).

Jones’s other event was the long jump, where she placed 12th with a leap of 5.06 meters (16’-6”). Alyssa Williams of Tuscola was the top finisher with a distance of 5.57 meters (18’-2”).

Amboy-LaMoille’s Lauren Althaus competed in two events at the state meet. The junior took 11th place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.03. The first-place finisher was Megan Becker of Bloomington Central Catholic with a clocking of 57.93.

Althaus also ran in the 200-meter dash and had a time of 27.66 for 24th place. Alyssa Williams of Tuscola broke the tape in a time of 25.32.

The Lady Clippers scored eight points and finished in 35th place in the team standings. The state title went to Belleville Althoff Catholic with 50 points, edging second-place Winnebago by one point.
