PARIS — John D. Lahman, a 80, of Paris, formerly of Marshall, passed away at 2:25 p.m., on Sept. 16, 2017 at Paris Community Hospital in Paris.
Services will be held at the Pearce Funeral Home at 3 p.m., on Thursday Sept. 21, 2017, with Rev Joe Tomich Officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Clark County American legion Post #90 and VFW Post #5975. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date in the Marshall Cemetery. He was born on Jan. 13, 1937 in Amboy, to Russell and Ada Ruth (Reubin) Lahman. He married Mary Elaine Schmidt, who preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 2008. He then married Sara J. Pearman on Nov. 27, 2009. He was a retired air traffic controller, who had also served for 20 years in the military.
He is survived by his wife, Sara, of Paris; one son, Wesley Lahman, of Marshall; one grandson, Bryce Lahman, of Coatesville, Ind.; two step children, Rosalyn Davis, of Avon, Ind., and Brad Davis, of Mattoon; three brothers, Jim Lahman, Bob Lahman, and Paul Lahman; three sisters, Donna Wellman, Marguerite Daniels and Marge Jackson; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas John Lahman; two brothers, Russell Lahman and Larry Lahman; and one sister, Ruth Jones.
He served for 20 years first in the Air force, for 12 and eight years in the Army. In the Air Force, JD was a tail gunner on a B-52 and during his time in the Army he served as a helicopter pilot and instructor. He completed one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam, accumulating 6000 hours of flight time which included 2000 hours of combat flight time. While in the military he earned the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal & Numeral 24, Good Conduct Medal & Clasp Bronze 2 loops, National Defense service medal, Vietnam Service medal & Silver Star attachment, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Sharpshooter Badge & Rifle Bar, Army Aviator Senior Badge.
He was a life member of the Marshall VFW Post #5975 where he held many offices with honor, Paris American Legion Post #211, Am vets, Tail gunners Association and he was also an avid golfer.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to D.O. it fund.
