WEST BROOKLYN - Janet A. Hornung, 79, of West Brooklyn passed away May 6, 2018 at the Mendota Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 11 at St. Mary’s Church, West Brooklyn with Fr. Randy Fronek officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 10 at the Schwarz Funeral Home, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Brooklyn. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jesse Arjes, Brandon, Donald, John and Nate Hornung and Sam Retzer.
Janet was born April 17, 1939 to Raymond and Anna Mae (Stephenitch) Gehant. She married Gerald Hornung on Feb. 6, 1958 and they celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry of West Brooklyn; two sons, Richard Hornung of West Brooklyn and Robert(Ann) Hornung of Kearney, Mo.; two daughters, LuAnn (Bob) Kromm of West Brooklyn and Connie (Dan) Retzer of Rockford; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Mike (Colleen) Gehant of Mendota; six sisters, Karen (Melvin) Bonnell, Mary Lou (Jerry) Reeser, Susan (Larry) Eddy, Pat (Terry) Moyer, Kathy (Tim) Burkardt and Sherrie (John) Jacobs; one sister-in-law, Barb Gehant; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Raymond Gehant and Don Gehant.
Janet was a housewife and a great asset to the Hornung Tiling Service. She will be forever remembered for entertaining her grandchildren on the golf cart.
