DIXON — James R. Barkowski, 68, of Dixon, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford.
He was born Aug. 12, 1949, in Chicago, the son of Edward and Lucille (Schuettauff) Barkowski. Jim had worked for Butternut Thrift Store in Dixon, and then Sensient Flavors in Amboy prior to his retirement in 2010.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon.
Jim married Monica Moore in Dixon, May 31, 1975.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law Dolores Moore.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Shane Barkowski, of Dixon, Asa (Lasheika) Barkowski, of Mill Creek, Wash., Brandi Barkowski, of Dixon, and Blair Sankey, of Polo; three grandsons, Kahlil, Devion, and Micah who loved their beloved Poopa; one brother, Edward Barkowski, of Arizona.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon with the Rev. Collin Easton, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 2, with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. in the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
