BLOOMINGTON – Amboy-LaMoille track athletes competed in the prestigious Illinois Top Times Meet on March 23 at Illinois Wesleyan University in Normal.
In girls’ results, Ashley Althaus finished 10thin the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.83. Her time established a new indoor meet school record.
Also setting an indoor meet school record was the 4x400 relay team, which took third place with a time of 4:18.01. Comprising the team were Cassidy Corcoran, Brooklyn Whelchel, Sidney Corcoran and Althaus.
In boys’ action, Tom Stamberger competed in the 800-meter run and took 10thplace with a clocking of 2:05.38.
“These were fantastic performances by the girls and Tom,” said A-L coach Bob Halberg. “To be able to qualify proves that you are one of the best in the state, and to compete the way they did is a compliment to them.
“The 4x400 relay dropped their time by 12 seconds in the last week, and Tom ran extremely well considering his inexperience in running indoors.”
Halberg said Top Times is the unofficial state indoor meet. It is more difficult to qualify for than the IHSA State Meet in May. It is not based on sectional placing (top two places and qualifying times). For example, the 4x400 had to be one of the top 12 times turned in.
