DIXON – George J. Renne, 91, of Dixon, died Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon.

Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m., on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 31, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Heewon Kim, officiating. Burial with full military graveside services provided by the combined veterans organizations will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

George was born April 7, 1926, in Poplar Grove, the son of Roland S. and Barbara Jane (McIntyre) Renne. George married Dolores Jackson on Aug. 12, 1951, in Prescott, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Renne; two sons, Randall (Peggy) Renne and Jeff (Betty) Renne, all of Dixon; five grandchildren; Nicholas (Taylor Tetrick) Renne, Matthew Renne, Megan Renne, Brandon Renne and Lauren Renne; and one great grandson, Rowan Patrick Renne. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Don Jackson; and several nieces and nephews, Jane (Si) Matthies, Stephen (Sandy) Renne, Sandy (Galen) Recnor, Sharon (Frank) Paullin, Edward (Gini) Jackson, Jonna (Shawn) Gilbert, Susan (Karl) Roller, Marchetta (Lee) Thompson, Chris Van Hoozer and Larry Jackson.

George was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Lynn W. Renne.

He was a high school English teacher for 33 years – three years in Red Oak, Iowa, and then 30 years at Dixon High School prior to his retirement.

He received his undergraduate degree at Drake University and his Master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. George also accumulated an additional 32 hours of study at Northern Illinois University after receiving his Masters.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Philippines and then Occupied Japan.

George was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the National Education Association, Illinois Education Association, the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and the Dixon Men’s Garden Club. He treasured his 25 plus years as a volunteer and employee at Heritage Square Retirement Home and his work as a volunteer at the Dixon Food Pantry where he also served on the Board.

Memorials have been established to Heritage Square in Dixon, Dixon Food Pantry, and the First United Methodist Church in Dixon.
