When a veteran dies, the Amboy American Legion will perform a graveside military honors services. The Legion performs about 30 of these graveside services each year. On Saturday, Legion members boarded a van headed to Rockford to perform the graveside services for former Amboy American Legion member Joseph A. “Joe” Morrissey who passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018. Morrissey was born and raised in Amboy. Following college, Morrissey served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. This isn’t the first time the Legion members have traveled to perform the graveside military honor. In April of 2017, 14 men, members of the Amboy American Legion and a trumpeter, boarded a rental van for Hillside on to reenact the graveside honor services for the movie What They Had. The movie is written and being directed by Elizabeth Chomko, one of the granddaughters of Clifford Becker, Sr. According to the Internet Movie Database, the release date for What They Had is Oct. 12, 2018.
