FS Clippers struggle, winning one out of four

Amboy’s freshman-sophomore boys’ basketball team has struggled on the hardwood in recent games, winning only one of its last four outings.

The Clippers fell at Milledgeville, 48-26, on Jan. 10.

Amboy scored just one basket in the opening quarter and trailed 16-2 at the buzzer. Milledgeville took a 27-9 lead to the break.

Brady Jones paced the Clippers with 10 points, while Ian Eller supplied six points.

First-quarter woes continued for Amboy in a 35-22 setback at Forreston on Jan. 12.

The Clippers found themselves down 12-5 after the first session and scoring points continued over the remainder of the game. Forreston was in front 23-10 at intermission and 30-16 heading to the fourth.

Andruw Jones pumped in eight points to top the AHS scoring chart. Eller, Caden Wittenauer and Jordan Gulley all had three points apiece.

Amboy was on the short end of a 69-17 score to Polo on Jan. 16 at the AHS gym.

The Marcos bolted to a 22-5 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Polo’s offense kept churning throughout the remainder of the game as it held leads of 38-9 at halftime and 50-15 after three periods.

Lane Boehle’s five points led Amboy scoring, while Eller and Brady Jones each contributed four points.

The Clippers snapped their losing skid with a 47-30 triumph over LaMoille on Jan. 18 at the AHS gym.

Amboy took off from a 10-8 first-quarter lead to a 23-15 halftime cushion. The Clippers held a 35-25 margin going into the fourth quarter, where they outscored LaMoille, 12-5.

Brady Jones exploded for 20 points to lead the attack. Eighteen of his tallies came in the first half. Boehle also hit double digits with 12 points.
