DIXON — Frank “Bud” Dexter, 89, a resident of Dixon, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, April 21, 2017 at KSB Hospital in Dixon.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Monday. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery in rural Atkinson. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 9128 in Bettendorf. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf and Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon are assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on June 14, 1927 in Taylor Ridge, Bud was the son of Andrew and Rose (Wessel) Dexter. On Nov. 7, 1953 in Atkinson, he married Marion J. Sleigh. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2000.

Bud served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the south Pacific. He retired as a retort operator in 1989 from Ralston Purina Company in Davenport after 40 years of service. Bud was a member of the VFW Post 9128 in Bettendorf, and served on its firing squad. He enjoyed making birdhouses and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Sharon Dexter, of Dixon and Danny (Kim) Dexter, of West Plains, Mo.; granddaughters, Alyssa and Allison; a brother, Harry Dexter, of Gardner, Kansas.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Bob and Harold; step-sister, Dorothy Robbins; and a step-brother, Kenny Swails.
