AMBOY — The Amboy Fire Department under the direction of Chief Jeff Bryant will host for the 22nd year a Fire and Extrication School Saturday, April 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Two hundred and fifty Fireman and EMS representing 47 departments from across the country including Chicago, Louisiana, New York, Texas, will get hands on training in a variety of topics such as; engine operation and street smart extrication. Simulation fires will add to the authenticity of real life situations.
Rapid Fire keynote lectures will also be going on throughout the day at Amboy High School. High class leaders like retired Lieutenant Tim Klett from Engine 88 of the New York Fire Department will share their individual encounters and knowledge over their careers. ‘Kids and Sports injuries’ along with ‘Don’t be the Target’ will be presented in conjunction with administration and leadership skill sets.
A vendor fair featuring household items and fire related merchandise will be available.
Back Alley Bar-B-Q will be hosting a fundraiser for the Amboy Fire Department on Saturday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the fire station. They will be serving meals with a portion of the sales being donated back to the fire department, as well as a Fill the Boot in lieu of tips. Back Alley Bar-B-Q will also be selling raffle tickets to make an additional donation back to the Amboy Fire Department. The prize will be a bag of their pork, brisket, and two bottles of sauce (choice of sweet, sweet heat, Carolina mustard or 3825) valued at $100. Tickets will be $5 for one or $20 for 5 and will only be on sale in person on Saturday, April 9 until 5 p.m. Drawing will be held shortly after that and an announcement made on Facebook and Instagram.
On Saturday evening a concert will be held at the Last Alarm Firehouse Pub culminating the day’s activities. A Brotherhood Event is the finale to the training as all instructors and students come together in solidarity.
Former Chief Frank Stenzel had the vision to bring this special event to Amboy, which is known nationally as a result. Bryant understands his duty as the current caretaker of this annual exercise.
