DIXON — Dorothy Marie Chapman, 93, of Dixon, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at her home.

Dorothy was born July 24, 1924, in Sublette, the daughter of Amor and Caroline (Sibigtroth) Leffelman. She married Elvin Jensen on July 24, 1946. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1963.  She married Howard Chapman Sr. on Dec. 17, 1975, in Morrison. Dorothy attended school in Sublette and Amboy. She put herself through business college in Dixon. She then worked for Illinois Department of Human Services, prior to getting married, becoming a homemaker, and raising seven children. Dorothy found such joy in her family, especially the little ones. She enjoyed playing games at family get togethers, doing puzzles into the wee hours, crocheting, knitting, playing candy crush, and telling the best stories of days gone by. Dorothy’s smile and laughter were infectious. Her love for family and friends ran deep and she was the light of our lives. A thousand moments that we had just taken for granted – mostly because we assumed that there would be a thousand more. Forever and always ~ we love you to the moon and back and all the stars in between.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Chapman, of Dixon; three sons, John (Brenda) Jensen, Richard (Marsha) Jensen, Charles (Deborah) Jensen; four daughters, Mary Davis, Karen Deadmond, Sharon Sforza, Debra (David) Jandrey; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Leffelman; one sister, Darlene Flessner; one son-in-law, Jim Deadmond; one granddaughter, Shauna Jensen, one great-grandson, Myles Conant; and one great-great-grandson, Christopher Michaels.

Visitation will be from 10 - 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, with the Rev. Collin Easton, pastor of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dixon, officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon.

A memorial has been established.
