Clippers season comes to an end in Regionals

AMBOY – The season came to an end for the Amboy Clippers after they dropped a 6-3 decision to Eastland in the semifinal-round of the Amboy Class 1A Regional Baseball Tournament on May 18 at Parker Field.

Eastland took an early 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings. Amboy got on the board in the top of the fifth when Andruw Jones reached on an error and came around to score when Quinn Leffelman was also safe on a Cougar miscue.

Eastland stretched its lead to 6-1 with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the fifth.

Amboy completed the scoring when it took advantage of more defensive lapses by the Cougars to score two runs in the top of the seventh. Jones had a single in the frame, while a walk and two Eastland errors contributed to Amboy’s scoring.

Jones had a pair of singles for the Clippers, while Haden McCoy collected a double.

Jones got the start on the mound for Amboy and worked four innings. He gave up six hits and four runs, walked two and struck out six.

Amboy concluded the season with a 7-11 overall record.
