Clippers get two wins in five games

AMBOY — The Amboy Clippers’ varsity baseball team had a busy week, playing five games. AHS managed to win two of the five.

The squad traveled to Bureau Valley on April 23 and lost, 15-5.

Mitchell McLaughlin paced the offense with a home run and a double.

Amboy got a strong pitching performance from Hunter Zimmerly and defeated Dakota, 6-1, on April 24 in Amboy.

Zimmerly struck out 15 batters and got offensive support from Maverick Lindenmeyer, Clayton Kemp and Justin Hart, who had two hits from the leadoff position.

The Clippers traveled to Dakota on April 26 and dropped a 17-15 decision.

The Indians jumped out to an early 14-3 lead after three innings before Amboy mounted a fierce comeback only to fall two runs short.

Zimmerly, Lindenmeyer and McLaughlin all swatted home runs, while Hart and Kemp added two hits apiece.

Amboy hosted Polo in a doubleheader on April 28.

The Clippers dropped the opener, 10-3, in nine innings. McLaughlin pitched eight of those innings and held the Marcos to three runs, but the bullpen allowed seven runs in the ninth.

Logan Whelchel went the distance on the mound in the second game as the Clippers posted a 9-5 win. Hart, Zimmerly and McLaughlin each had two hits, while Lane Boehle drove in three runs.

Justin Hart, Amboy High School Senior, #2 plays for Varsity as Pitcher, catcher, and outfielder.
