PECATONICA – Amboy-LaMoille’s varsity football team is on a two-game winning streak after rolling over Durand-Pecatonica, 24-6, in Northwest Upstate Illini Conference action on Sept. 14 at Pecatonica.

The Clippers (2-2 overall, 2-1 conference) opened the scoring in the first quarter when Mario Carvahol nailed a 29-yard field goal to make it 3-0.

Amboy-LaMoille padded its lead with a pair of second-quarter touchdowns. Austin Norman bulled into the end zone from 2 yards out just 13 seconds into the second period and Carvahol kicked the extra point.

Five minutes later, the Clippers were back in the end zone on a 1-yard plunge by quarterback Mitchell McLaughlin. Carvahol’s kick was good and Amboy-LaMoille took a 17-0 lead to intermission.

Durand-Pecatonica tallied its one and only touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run in the third frame, and then the Clippers answered on a 21-yard TD pass from McLaughlin to Preston Henkel with 3:10 left in the game. Carvahol’s PAT kick was good.

Amboy-LaMoille churned out 317 yards of offense, led by Norman with 128 yards rushing in 25 totes. McLaughlin gained 49 yards on the ground and completed five passes for 110 yards. Henkel gathered in two passes for 39 yards and Hunter Zimmerly had a pair of receptions for 37 yards.

The Clippers will return to the gridiron on Friday, Sept. 21 when they host East Dubuque (1-3 overall, 1-3 conference). The sophomore kickoff is at 5:30 p.m.
