FRANKLIN GROVE – Amboy-LaMoille closed out the 2019 season on a winning note with a 34-16 triumph over Ashton-Franklin Center on Oct. 25 at Franklin Grove.

The Clippers finished up on a two-game winning streak. They ended the year at 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference-South Division.

AFC started the scoring when Peyton Lanning ran in from 31-yards out with 9:22 left in the opening stanza. Lanning also ran for the two-pointer to put the Raiders up 8-0.

The Clippers quickly answered when Preston Henkel rambled 57 yards to the end zone, followed by a Maxim Ryjov extra-point kick to make it 8-7.

Amboy-LaMoille forged in front at the 1:12 mark of the first period on a 75-yard touchdown pass from Henkel to Marcus Winn. Ryjov’s PAT kick put the Clippers up, 14-8.

Each team scored a touchdown in the second quarter. Ethan Drew hit Sam Lauer on an 18-yard TD strike for AFC and Drew ran in the two-point conversion to give the Raiders a 16-14 lead.

But the Clippers wasted little time in striking back on a 58-yard touchdown jaunt by Austin Norman to go back ahead. Ryjov’s extra-point kick sailed through the uprights for a 21-16 Clipper advantage at intermission.

The two teams played a scoreless third quarter, then Amboy-LaMoille put the game away with a pair of fourth-quarter TDs.

Winn hauled in a 57-yard touchdown pass from Henkel with 3:28 to go and Ryjov booted the extra point.

Then Zach Wicaryus put an exclamation point on the Clipper win when he returned an interception 84 yards to the end zone.

Amboy-LaMoille ended the contest with 357 total yards compared to 295 for AFC. Norman rushed 16 times for 144 yards for the Clippers, while Dylan Moore gained 91 yards in 25 attempts for the Raiders.

Henkel completed five passes for 165 yards, with Winn gathering in four for 149. Drew connected on 11 passes for 123 yards for AFC (0-9, 0-6).
