Clippers cross country team competes at State

PEORIA – The Amboy boys’ cross country team finished up its highly-successful season by participating in the IHSA Class 1A State Cross Country Meet on Nov. 6 at Detweiler Park in Peoria.

Seven Clippers were in the field of 260 runners. Amboy senior Brock Loftus ended his remarkable high school career by finishing in 26th place with a time of 15:36.83. Junior Kyler McNinch was next in for the Clippers in 82nd place with a time of 16:24.14, while senior Ian Eller also ran his final race and took 90th place in a time of 16:25.17.

The rest of the Amboy racing team included junior Charlie Dickinson (215th, 17:44.24), senior Wyatt Lundquist (218th, 17:45.32), junior Garrett Pertell (222nd, 17:49.85) and senior Andruw Jones (239th, 18:15.38).

Ryan James of Paxton-Buckley-Loda was the overall individual state champion with a clocking of 14:16.89. Drew Rogers of Herscher was the runner-up in 14:29, while Miles Sheppard of Hamilton West Hancock (14:31.96), Daniel Winkelman of Elgin Harvest Christian Academy (14:42.27) and Isaac Teel of Pinckneyville (14:45.08) completed the top five runners.

Chicago Latin was the team state champion with 165 points. The rest of the top five teams were Arthur (172), Chicago DePaul College Prep (186), Normal University (193) and Rockford Christian (217). Amboy placed 22nd with 468 points. There were 30 scoring teams.
