AMBOY — The Amboy Clipper’s baseball team increased its winning streak to four this week. Hunter Zimmerly and Mitchell McLaughlin pitched the Clippers to back-to-back wins against Durand-Pecatonica.

On April 17, Zimmerly struck out 15 batters on the way to a 2-0 win.

Justin Hart singled twice and McLaughlin had both runs batted in with a single and a double off the left field fence.

On April 19, McLaughlin struck out seven in a 5-3 victory.

Amboy scored three times in the top of the seventh. Maverick Lindenmeyer and Clayton Kemp had clutch two-out hits to give the Clippers the lead.

Lindenmeyer and McLaughlin each had two hits. Freshmen Lane Boehle and Preston Henkel played big roles by each reaching base twice.

The winning streak came to an end as the Clippers lost to a very talented Putnam County team, 15-5, on April 21 at Granville.

Hart, Reece Vaessen and Kemp handled the pitching. McLaughlin continued his hot hitting with two doubles and a single. Lindenmeyer and Kemp each had run-scoring doubles. Frank Piscitello played well, going 1 for 3 at the plate.

The Clippers’ records stand at 5-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

Amboy Junior Hunter Zimmerly lets the pitch go. Zimmerly, a pitcher, also covers first base, third base, and short stop for the Amboy Varsity Baseball team.
