Clippers boy basketball competes in Eastland Holiday Tournament

LANARK – Pecatonica burned the nets on its way to a 90-54 triumph over Amboy in the Eastland Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27 at Lanark.

The game was tight after the opening quarter, with Amboy only down by five (18-13). But Pecatonica exploded for 25 second-quarter points to open up a 43-28 halftime lead. The Indians outdid themselves in the third period by putting 28 points on the board to take a commanding 71-43 lead into the fourth frame.

Eddie Jones fired in four three-pointers and added four more conventional hoops to pace the Clippers with 20 points. Garrett Pertell was next with nine tallies, while Troy Anderson added seven markers.


Amboy couldn’t maintain a fast start as Galena rallied for a 73-30 decision over the Clippers.

The Clippers zoomed out to a 19-5 first-quarter lead, but Galena caught fire in the second period and outscored Amboy, 22-5, to seize a 27-24 halftime advantage. Then in the third frame, the Clippers were shutout and the Pirates erupted to 29 points to go up 56-24 with one quarter to play.

Jones and Anderson led the Amboy offense with 12 and six points, respectively.


Forreston got the best of the Clippers, 54-45, on Dec. 28.

It was another good start for Amboy as it held 13-8 lead with eight minutes in the books. Forreston put together a strong second quarter and was able to overtake the Clippers at the half, 28-26, and then the Cardinals slowly pulled away over the final two frames.

Anderson topped the Clippers with 13 points, followed by Wes Wilson with 12 and Jones with eight. Wilson connected on three shots from beyond the three-point arc.
