Amboy’s varsity baseball team traveled to Freeport and blasted Aquin, 11-5, in Northwest Upstate Illini Conference action on May 7.
The Clippers built up a 7-0 lead through four innings before Aquin scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to make it 7-4. But Amboy answered with four big runs in the top of the seventh to widen the margin.
Amboy totaled 12 hits in the contest, led by Mitchell McLaughlin with three singles. Clayton Kemp and Lane Boehle added two singles apiece.
Hunter Zimmerly earned the win on the mound, allowing four hits and five runs in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 11. McLaughlin came on in relief and held Aquin scoreless the rest of the way.

Amboy concluded the regular season with an 8-4 setback to conference for Freeport Aquin on May 11 at City Park.
The Clippers had to climb out of an early hole as Aquin held an 8-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth. Amboy tallied all four of its runs in the fifth as Kemp, Zimmerly and Boehle each drove in a run.
Amboy finished with 12 hits, including four singles by Kemp in four at-bats. Boehle added three singles, while Zimmerly singled and doubled.
Logan Whelchel got the start on the hill for the Clippers (8-10, 7-5) and pitched two innings to take the loss.
