Clipper wrestlers compete at Bob Mitton Invite

ORION – The Amboy Clippers’ wrestling team competed in the Bob Mitton Wrestling Invite held at Orion High School on Jan. 20-21.

The two-day meet had 21 teams competing. Amboy had seven wrestlers competing and finished in 16th place with 60.5 points. Riverdale won the tournament with 255 points.   

Earning the highest place for Amboy was 113-pound freshman Landon Blanton, receiving a third-place medal.

Other medalists for the Clippers were Josh McKendry (fifth place at 138 pounds), Levi Near (sixth place at 132 pounds) and Chase Montavon (sixth place at 120 pounds).

Competing but not placing for the Clippers were Austin Heath, Kole Beckham and Lucas Blanton.

Levi Near recognized

On Thursday, Jan. 19 Amboy High School wrestling recognized their lone senior. Levi Near, son of Tabitha and Kyle Near, wrestles in the 132 pound weight class. He is a four year member of the Amboy/AFC Wrestling team. 

The Clippers wish him the best of luck during the remaining of the wrestling season.
