Clipper runners compete at invitationals Sept 2023

AMBOY — Amboy cross country runners raced in the Seneca Invite on Sept. 1 at Seneca. Amboy only had entries in the boys’ and girls’ junior varsity events.
In the JV girls’ competition, there were four runners that completed the race for the Lady Clippers. Samantha Nauman led the team with a seventh-place finish in a time of 19:06.7. Addison Pertell was next in 11th place at 20:25.3, followed by Anna Carlson in 12th place (20:50.6) and Natalie Pratt in 16th place (21:28.6).
Mikayla Chambers of Dwight won the race with a clocking of 15:47.3.
The top three schools in the team standings were Sandwich, Ottawa and Manteno.
In the JV boys’ race, Amboy’s Jhett Cowser finished in 21st place with a time of 17:29.3.
Parker Fleetwood of Morris was the first runner to cross the finish line in a time of 14:37.4

Amboy competed in the Gary Coates Invitational in Princeton on Sept. 9.
In varsity boys’ action, Brysen Full was Amboy’s lone runner, placing 46th in a time of 21:25.86.
Anthony Kelson of Mendota was the overall winner at 16:49.96.
Mercer County claimed the team title with 48 points, edging out Sterling Newman by one point. LaSalle-Peru (73), Lowpoint-Washburn (96), Morris (121) and Mendota (121) completed the team standings.
Four Lady Clippers ran in the varsity girls’ race. Pertell led the pack in 36th place with a time of 25:01.67. Nauman (40th, 25:33.75), Carlson (47th, 26:10.66) and Pratt (49th, 26:19.19) also traversed the course for AHS.
Elly Heineke of Lowpoint-Washburn crossed the finish line first in a time of 20:15.54.
The team standings included Sherrard and Lowpoint-Washburn with 36 points apiece, followed by L-P (90), Mercer County (114), Rockridge (119), Fieldcrest (141) and Orion (149).
In the freshman-sophomore boys’ event, Cowser placed 13th in a time of 12:41.63. Alex Belha of Sherrard won at 11:14.7.
