Amboy wins for fifth straight time

AMBOY — On May 2, the Amboy baseball team traveled to Milledgeville for a NUIC match up against the Missiles.

The Clippers started strong with four runs in the first inning, with RBIs by Clayton Kemp, Alexis Gutierrez and Nick Schafer.

Amboy was facing a three-run deficit going into the seventh inning, but erupted for six runs. The Clippers got big hits from Justin Hart and Hunter Zimmerly. Schafer and Gutierrez also doubled in the inning. Mitchell McLaughlin finished off Milledgeville by holding them scoreless in the bottom of the seventh for a 14-10 victory. Jordan Hochstatter, Hart, Zimmerly, Kemp and Schafer all had multiple hits.

On May 4, the Clippers won their fifth straight game, 8-2. It was senior night for the boys’ baseball team at it played host to Milledgeville at the Amboy City Park.

Hart was dominant on the mound. Hart struck out six Missile batters, but also had help from his defenses as they turned two double plays. McLaughlin led the way with three hits and two RBI. Schafer added two singles and two RBI. Zimmerly and Cain Powers both had RBI singles for the Clippers. Their record stands at 11-8, 7-6 conference play.

The boys will begin regional play on May 18 in Amboy.
