Classes step up to Depot brick challenge

Posted

I am pleased to have joined the Depot Commission and look forward to working with the team of members to continue the support of our Amboy historical landmark, the Amboy Depot.

A project near and dear to my mother, Helen Glessner, was the brick project, therefore, I asked if I could assist Bernadine Willstead in promoting the sale of the bricks over the next year.

One of my goals is to have all of the classes represented by a small brick. We are so thrilled of the response we have received after posting the challenge to the classes.

The classes that have not yet purchased a brick are: 1951, 1954, 1957, 1965, 1970, 1973, 1980, 1989, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2016, and 2017.

By the end of the year, we may have all of the classes represented.

Last year, my graduating class had our 40threunion during Homecoming weekend. Our committee agreed to ask each member for a small donation of $5 or more to buy the small 4x8 class brick at $50 and/or the larger 8x8 brick for $100, which we could personalize with our class motto and the Clipper Ship. By the end of the evening, the Class of 1977 was very generous and were able to purchase both. Everyone in attendance thought it was a great idea and everyone donated.

Depot Days and Homecoming are both times of the year that the classes celebrate reunions. I am hoping that a representative from these class get-togethers will step up and collection donation money to get your class represented. Bernadine has brochures at the Depot that she will gladly mail out to anyone to begin your quest to leave your class represented in Amboy.

Since we have many of the older classes open and don’t have any living members, one might remember a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, and help support the Depot.

Not to just focus on graduating classes, we also would like to encourage you, your family members or your business to buy a brick and personalize it and build your legacy and become a part of Amboy history.
