AMBOY — Byron C. Walter, 79, of Amboy, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at his home.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3 – 7 p.m., on Friday, July 14, 2017 and from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m., on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amboy.  Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Barbara Otten officiating.

Byron was born April 20, 1938, in Wellend the son of Elmer and Gladys (Schlesinger) Walter. He married Marilyn Montavon on July 15, 1961 in Walton.

Byron worked most of his life as a farmer and later became a security guard at the Byron Nuclear Plant. He was a member of the Amboy High School Clipper Backers and was president for four years. He was also a member of the Amboy Booster Club. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards with his grandchildren and dancing with his wife.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of Amboy; three sons, Kirk Walter, of Amboy, Kent (Javier) Walter, of Aberdeen, Scotland and Kyle (Barbi) Walter, of Sherman; one sister-in-law, Phyllis WalteR, of Amboy; seven grandchildren, Adam Walter, of Harmon, Nathan Walter, of Dixon, Kerstin Moore, of Sherman, Zachary Walter, of Sherman, Molly Walter, of Sherman, Jake Walter-Chiaraluce, of Aberdeen, Scotland and Liam Walter-Chiaraluce, of Aberdeen, Scotland; and three great-grandchildren, Dawson Moore, Raelyn Moore and Logan Walter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and his brother, Clifford Walter.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Hospice of American in Rockford.

Arrangements were completed by Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon.
