AMBOY — The Amboy Lions continued their busy pace again in April. On April 8, District 1D Governor, Lion Barb Stewart, inducted the newest members of the Amboy Lions:  Lion Perry Braida, Lion Jim Child, Lion Mark Grossman, and Lion Jeff Hanson. The newest Lions were sponsored by Lions Jim Travi, Cecil Harrison, and Roger Wittenauer. She also awarded service chevrons to Lions: Bruce Miller-35 years; Ken Novak and Steve Brownlee-30 years; Buddy Morrissey-15 years; and Tom Mead-10 years. She then proceeded to award the Club with the LCI Centennial Service Challenge Award Patch for Diabetes and the LCI 4 Diamond Award Patch for the Club’s banner. At the end of the ceremony she presented the International President’s Certificate of Appreciation and the International President Pin to Lion Edy Pfeiffer. Edy’s awards are among the highest honors any Lion can receive. Congratulations Lion Edy Pfeiffer.

April 13, Rose Day, dawned early as Lion members assembled at 7 a.m. at the Amboy Community Center to carry in, sort and separate 740 dozen roses for delivery that day. A big thank you goes out to the Amboy community for making Rose Day a huge success. This is one of the club’s main fund raisers and the money is used to support projects throughout the year.

With a surprise blizzard on April 14, the Club along with the Amboy Leo Club served breakfast for the Mabley Center residents in Dixon. Lions Roger Wittenauer, Dave Kemp, Patty Ohlendorf and Jim Travi along with Leo Club members cooked and served a pancake and sausage breakfast for the residents.

The club members came together on the evening of April 19 to relive the fun times of their youth by dyeing 90 dozen eggs donated by the Amboy Food and Liquor Store. Some of the adults and Leo Club members assembled the candy bags to be distributed the next day at the Easter Egg Hunt in the city park.

The day of the Egg Hunt, a sunny, spring afternoon, over 150 children, parents, relatives and friends arrived at the Amboy City Park for the annual Cliff Walter Easter Egg Hunt. Easter Bunny, Lion Mike Danekas again did a great job posing for photos with the children and adults.  The prize winners were pictured in the April 24 edition of the Amboy News. A great time was enjoyed by all.

The Amboy Lions Club Scholarship Committee is currently reading and going through 18 excellent scholarship applications. The scholarship recipients will be announced at the AHS Honors Night on May 23. This spring the Lions have contributed to LCIF Diabetes Awareness, the LCIF Disaster Relief Fund, to the Amboy American Legion for the purchase of flags for Veteran Memorial Park and helped sponsor Amboy Youth Baseball teams.
