LEE COUNTY – The Lee County Board met at the Reagan Transportation Center on Tuesday, Feb. 20 due to a mechanical fire that put the elevator at the old Lee County Courthouse out of order.
Sheriff John Simonton gave an update on the new jail being planned for the county. They are now considering using clean energy for the site. Geotherm and Solar energy are both being considered. There is the possibility for a grant to cover the cost of installation for these. A proposed start date would be sometime in June.
Larry Schremp was recognized with the presentation of a plaque, for 20 years of service with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.
“If you have seen the televisions shows about a Caribbean Life,” said Schremp. “That is me.” He will be retiring to the Virgin Islands.
“The inmates at the Lee County jail are sad to see you go,” shared Simonton.
The board approved the expansion of the Enterprise Zone to include the Mount Morris project and the Rochelle area project as well. The Rochelle area will construct a new memory care facility and the Anchor Road Storage is seeking to expand in Dixon.
The board approved the appointments of Terry Zinke to the position of Lee County Weed Control Superintendent; David Anderson as the Lee County Engineer for a term of six years and Jared Nicholson to the Lee County Sheriff’s Merit Commission for a five year term.
They also approved a resolution for authorizing execution and amendment of Downstate Operation Assistance Grant Agreement for LOTS; the Lee County Clerk and Recorders annual report; IDOT agreement for federal participation in the Amboy Road bridge. They approved the country engineer’s salary, and the pay rate of part-time bailiffs.
They approved an addendum to the Mendota Hills Road use agreement for removal of 63 existing windmills and the installation of 19 replacement towers.
A resolution approving Lee County’s participation in Opioid Nuisance Litigation was tabled until March.
The March meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 21 at 9 a.m. at the Old Lee County Courthouse. Note the meeting date change, due to the General Election on March 20.
